Your segues blow, dude

Using the WikiLeaks Story to Segue Into a BP Story

"It's hilarious how the cable news networks are all exactly the same," our boy Jake Zavracky said to me the other day, which totally sounds like something Jake would say. "They all repeat the same sound-bytes, use the same words of the week and so on. This week the trend is to go from the WikiLeaks story to the BP story by having the anchor say 'Speaking of leaks, the BP oil spill...'"

Good call, Jake. That segue barely even makes sense, and it certainly doesn't enhance the quality of the news report in any way. Who are these playful linguistics diversions helping? You're moving from one important story to the next in an effort to inform the public here, you don't need to beat-match the news, dude. An abrupt, clear cut transition will do fine. Oh, now that I think of it, remind me to put anal leaks on the List later. I've been jacked up on Metamucil and Honey Nut Cheerios all week, and I'm fucking gushing like an oil rig over here. Anus-wise, I mean.
