No one wins, that's what. I'll tell you who loses though: me for thinking about this celebrity slap fight for more than ten seconds.
The basic gist is this: Kings of Leon got bird shit in their mouths again, but this time the bird is the producer of one of the biggest, and gayest /no homo(phobia) shows on TV, and the shit is racism against gay people. And awful TV shows.
I've never seen Glee, mind you, but I do have a degree in making things up, so I think I speak with some authority here when I say it has very little to do with rock and roll. The only thing less rock and roll mentioned in this story is the rock and roll band Kings of Leon, so deciding who to root for hate slightly less is hard.
Oh my god this is so stupid, why did I even start writing this post? Well, too late now. Let's forge ahead, shall we?
A few months back the band declined to have their hit song "Use Somebody" on the show. I guess they sing people's songs on Glee, in like a school chorus way? And people watch it, is what I'm told. Lots of them. Glee creator Ryan Murphy didn't take it well at the time, telling The Hollywood Reporter
“F--- you, Kings of Leon,” he says... “They’re self-centered assholes, and they missed the big picture. They missed that a 7-year-old kid can see someone close to their age singing a Kings of Leon song, which will maybe make them want to join a glee club or pick up a musical instrument. It’s like, OK, hate on arts education. You can make fun of Glee all you want, but at its heart, what we really do is turn kids on to music.”
Yeah, that's why they turned it down. They hate kids learning about music. Score one for the bearded side of this equation (always root for the beard). Nathan Followill, the band's drummer, was all, like, Oh no you di'nt on , saying "Dear Ryan Murphy, let it go. See a therapist, get a manicure, buy a new bra. Zip your lip and focus on educating 7yr olds how to say fuck."
Oh no he di'nt.
Naturally, everyone, and by everyone I mean bloggers with even less to write about than me, got giant homophobia boners in their closeted brain penises after hearing that comment. So now, I guess, we're boycotting KOL for being racist? What about boycotting them for being bad at their jobs?
The band's singer Caleb Followill realized that he was about to eat another plate of avian diarrhea over this whole thing, so he walked it back a few paces and took a verbal knee, saying:
“This whole Glee thing is a shock to us. It’s gotten out of hand. At the time of the request, we hadn’t even seen the show. It came at the end of that record cycle, and we were over promoting [“Use Somebody”]. This was never meant as a slap in the face to Glee or to music education or to fans of the show. We’re not sure where the anger is coming from.”
Well said, band front-man (can I say that?). The lesson learned here? Don't let the drummer talk, and no matter how many hit TV shows you make about it, high school chorus kids are still melodramatic nerds.

I do like that song though, I must admit. I need to stop shitting on bands I like.

Ryan Murphy might be trying to win the next one.
He'd lost Use Somebody, but you think whoever they ask next is gonna say 'no'?
They'll at least figure in a potential public row with a wily shitslinger first.
It's kinda amusing that the Glee kids are bullying the cool indie kids though.
Also 'root' not 'route'
I thought this blog was about ice cream, you guys?
is that a homophobic thing to say? hard to tell since i don't know what the glee guy is like really
This blog is on fire.
Add this to the list of reasons why people hate Kings of Leon. I've always just relied on their music for that determination, but I can accept other reasons too.
How will Kings of Leon sleep at night anymore. Besides on a pile of cash and models.
@Max good point. It will be harder for a band to say no now.
Glee can eat a giant drag queen dick. Forever. I'm with the dumb drummer. His tweet is 90 percent on point.
