You know how when you want to parody paranoid conservative psychotics (aka regular-ass conservatives), you adopt this tone that's like "And then HUSSEN OBAMA is coming to steal our guns so he can coddle murderers and steal old people's medicine money to institute mandatory sex change operations?" and it's funny because, hahaha, that's the type of outlandish fantasy world shit these losers think is actually going to happen. Uh, hold on a minute because maybe they have a point this time.
Today a federal judge has "ordered state prison officials to provide a taxpayer-funded sex-reassignment surgery to a transgender inmate serving life in prison for murder," as the Boston Herald reports, in a story that covers all the basic tenets of tabloid journalism (and click-bait blog posts for that matter): 1) sex 2) crime 3) sexually-related crimes 4) "activist" liberal judges 5) scare stories about the government wasting hardworking American's money.
"U.S. District Judge Mark Wolf ruled in the case of Michelle Kosilek, who was born as a man but has received hormone treatments and lives as a woman in an all-male prison. Robert Kosilek was convicted of murder in the killing of his wife in 1990."
I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this story myself for a couple reasons. Anyone who complains about the .0001 of a dollar of their own personal taxes that goes into something they disagree with without first addressing the very real issue of how much we spend on bombing the shit out of brown people -- in 2011, 20 percent of the budget, or $718 billion, paid for defense and security-related international activities says the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities -- is tilting at windmills and more often than not a frightened, greedy baby. Secondly, I'm sensitive to the idea of how the type of instinctual trans-gender bias that would make a lot of people freak out over this is a real problem.
And yet, my initial reaction to this story, those considerations notwithstanding, is that this isn't exactly the most pressing issue that needs to be addressed at the moment, is it? Seems like maybe a murdering motherfucker could just tough it out in the body he was given. Does thinking that make me a hateful cretin?
One thing I am always in favor of, however, is trolling conservatives, and this may be the most masterful bit of rage-baiting I've seen in a long time. Got a conservative friend or relative whose day you want to ruin? Send them this link and wait for the steam to come out of their ears.

I think you either accept transgender people as either needing this surgery or not.
Arguing about who pays for it or whatever seems beside the point.
I'm not sure expecting someone to 'tough it out' is a well-thought out attitude.

I do accept that, no question. If people want it, absolutely no argument from me. But, we do take away all sorts of other rights and privileges from people once they are incarcerated for life for murder, so I'm wondering aloud about the reasonability of this. I could be wrong.
As a heartless bleeding heart who defends felons and illegal immigrants, I can attest to the fact that without a sex change and hormone therapy, these inmates usually resort to involuntarily hacking their own genitals off because their (for lack of a better word) neurosis about their gender identity compels them to do so.
But they probably deserve that, cuz they're tranny-felon-illegals, right?
