A documentary, although I use that term only in the contemporary political discourse sense where words don't actually mean what we think they mean, purporting that president Obama's mother Ann Dunham posed for pornographic bondage pictures, and that his father was actually poet and American Communist Party member Frank Marshall Davis has been mailed to hundreds of thousands of voters in swing states, with millions more allegedly ready to be sent (Digital Journal/Daily Mail). Thus proving, yet again, that these idiots can't even get their lies straight about the radical Christian/Muslim president born of both a Kenyan father and an American communist at the same time.
The pictures, (and the desperation), have actually been floating around the right wing sections of the internet where you don't want to let your kids wander alone at night, for a few years now, but have come scratching forth from the partisan grave, zombie-like, once again because of right wing shit head Joel Gilbert's film being back in the news. The basic premise of the strategy here, in actual presidential politics, is this: Your mom was a slut. Also your dad was a lefty poet, which, ok, that's something that we can all agree is unfortunate. No one wants a poet for a father.
You can read some of the most amazing claims Gilbert makes here, among which are:
* That Barack's real father was not Kenyan student Barack Obama Sr., but rather communist poet and labor activist Frank Marshall Davis, who indoctrinated young Barack with revolutionary Marxism.
* That Dunham's marriage to Obama was a sham meant to conceal her affair with Davis.
* That Barack's rise to power was "not a sudden political phenomenon," but rather "the culmination of an American socialist movement" that Davis "nurtured in Chicago and Hawaii, and has been quietly infiltrating the US economy, universities and media for decades."
Oh, also Obama's grandfather was in the CIA. Pretty compelling stuff, right? Although what they maybe lacking in, you know, evidence, I will give them credit for one thing, they really put some good work into finding pictures of Obama looking in the same direction as Davis. That has to mean something, right? (They're looking to the left here, I should point out).
Snopes disproved the photo's of Dunham a few years back, but then they took the page down apparently!? I suppose that must mean it's true? They do, however, still have a page up on Snopes where they counter rumors that Dunham was a "transvestite" born a man as false. I am particularly fond of this rumor because, as Snopes writes, it means that there are people out there dumb enough to think that a man putting on women's clothes enables him to have a baby. For a group of people known as birthers you'd think they'd have more knowledge about how birth actually works, but I wouldn't necessarily be surprised by anything from that lot.
Whether or not this documentary being mailed out will have any effect remains to be seen, because, first of all, who the fuck opens a DVD they get in the mail out of nowhere, goes all the way over to the thing, puts it in, and sits down to watch it? I can barely muster the motivation to tab over to the next window where I've got the YouTube clip playing. But, as you will definitely be in no way surprised to hear, there are high ranking Republicans lending credence to the accusations.
Bill Armistead, chairman of the Alabama Republican Party, urged voters to see "Dreams From My Real Father," calling it "absolutely frightening" and "factual."
"I've seen it," Armistead told a gathering of conservative women in Fairhope last Wednesday. "I've verified that it's factual, all of it," he added. DJWhether or not it's even true, the idea that someone's mother having posed for nude pictures at one point has anything whatsoever to do with her middle-aged son's ability to perform a job 50 years later is one we better nip in the bud right now, because at the rate things are going now via self-shots and amateur sex tapes, there will come a day in the not too distant future when literally no one is eligible to be president anymore.
