I don't get down to the South Station area in Boston much on account of not being a finance douche or a guy who needs a dollar to catch the bus back to Springfield please, so I didn't see this piece of public art everyone is whinging about (from the Brazilian duo OS Gemeos) in person until yesterday. Turns out it does look like a boy in [some vaguely foreign costume]. The proper reaction to that fact, in case you were wondering, is this: oh, that's a nice/surprising/colorful piece of art breaking up the monotony of the dull neighborhood. I will now proceed to go about my day.
Unless, of course, you're a FOX 25 news viewer, in which case it's obviously a terrorist. "This is not something that should represent the city of Boston," says a bald guy with a loose grasp of what the word represent means in this news report, which is crashing the shit out of my browser trying to embed, so go watch it there. Actually, don't.

That's not what it is at all, says some foreign art weenie, gayly, I'd bet, just looking at that guy, am I right? Arting all over the place.
"Art is supposed to generate discussions, and make people think, which is good," says that one gender studies professor you probably had. Or, as the case may be, the exact opposite of that. There's very little thinking going on here, and a lot of knee-jerking.
"It's scary like a Batman," adds a little boy, collectively summing up the overreation from the city's infantile, perpetually petrified children. Like these ones below, each of whom have outed themselves on a public forum as people who are scared of the idea of t-shirts wrapped around fictional cartoon characters' heads, among other things.

pajama pants with a shirt wrapped around his head. A checkered table cloth wrapped around their head. Is Alonzo stupid? That is what the islamic jehadist wear. They don't care if the pets pissed on it they'll wrap their ugly head in anything as long as it hides their face.

I was disgusted to come out of south station this morning on my way to work to see this plastered on the Greenway. My first impression was it was a "TERRORIST". I'm insulted that these artist(s) are trying to portray a boy in pajamas....PLEASE! Mayor Menino should call for this distateful portrayal of art post 911 to be immediately removed.
Technically, you know, every single thing that ever happens throughout the entirety of the human species will be post-9/11.
Our mayor was quick to voice his intolerance over a privately owned company who serves all and doesn't discriminate- but has a "not very politically correct" view of marriage. They're not welcome here - but we must all embrace this display of "art". Well said Lisa. Let's hope he's listening!!
I appreciate the fact that she saved me the trouble and put "not very politically correct" in quotes herself.

A nude mural of Kate Upton would be an example of real art! This is just an ugly POS with its obvious underlying intentions. Those who see only art in this...know not what they see!
Obvious.
· · Top CommenterI imagine if we were forced to look at this every day for the rest of our lives we might get over the clearly intended shock value of... a kid in pajamas.
I have a degree in Visual Art and a degree in Graphic Design, and I think this fresco/mural is butt ugly. It was designed to be self-promoting. It shocks the viewer and enrages the public all for the sake of gaining notoriety. This is not good art, but it is good self-promotion. If we give this so-called artist attention or worse commissions we are encouraging the artist and this type of art. I vote for it to be repainted. There should be several drafts submitted for public view and there should be a vote. Since we the public have to look at it for the rest of our lives.
· Top Commenter ·Sheila, allow me to refer you to this enlightening, yet horribly worded sentence in the article you just read: "On Monday the Department of Transportation did not fund the painting, rather, they only issued a permit for an outdoor display."
hideous..get your taxpayer money back...talk about waste lol.
