Everything else I have said up until this point has been a lie. This is the real song of the summer. I wrote about it on Bullett the other day. Go watch the video there. Excerpt below.
Oof, this song sucks, I thought to myself, subconsciously humming it over and over again in my head for the next hour. Goddamit, fine, I’ll go back and take another peak-see at the video (h/t Stereogum), just in case.
FADE OUT
Jump ahead to a hundred years later and the earth is a vast wasteland littered with the broken husks of once majestic buildings and dried-up rivers. My mutant cyborg clone is huddled in a subterranean bunker rocking himself back and forth by a sputtering fire, ravished from starvation, choking on ash, and driven mad with despair.
MUTANT CYBORG CLONE LUKE:
“Cash, diamond rings, swimming pools.”
He croaks, barely conjuring enough breath in the coal-black atmosphere to force the words out. Off in the distance a pig-wolf howls its nightmarish mating song. There’s little fuel left for the fire and the night will be cold.
FIN
Turns out this track — from the Bulgarian/Berlin-based DENA — came out a month or so ago, which means under the Content Mill Irrelevance Charter of 2012 that we’re not technically even allowed to mention that it exists anymore without risking an automatic Klout score reduction penalty, but my editor is on vacation so that means it’s anarchy up in this bitch for a couple weeks. Check it out below. More from DENA here.
