Bloggable content from Beach House, Ariel Pink, Andre Obin + Bearstronaut

Going to be honest here, and maybe this is dereliction of duty or something and I"m in danger of getting bumped down a rank in the music writing army, but could not possibly care less about that band Beach House. Surprising, because for a hot minute I was, like many of us, all about the washed-out/chillwave/dream-pop/keyboard-babe-core/? thing they had going on. There were just soooo many other groups doing the exact same thing at the time, I just never really remembered to come back around and pay attention to them. The conclusion to this story, like so many other stories that I tell, is that I'm an asshole and I don't know what I'm talking about. This new video for their song "Lazuli" is gorgeous and tripp and makes me want to fall in love in slow motion. Props for the Ghostbusters references in the video as well.

Watch the video plus more from Ariel Pink, Andre Obin + Bearstronaut below.

Another band who came out around the same time that I never really unlocked the code for was Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, another eminently bloggable blog band. This track "Baby" is off their forthcoming second album "Mature Themes." This song is romance personified however. Slow and quiet like every moment is pregnant with meaning.

My homeboy Andre Obin just released the video for his "Valencia." It's a little harder-edged than his usually dreamy stuff, and the video is beautifully shot. I talked to him about it in the Globe a while back.

Can't remember the last time my other homeboys Bearstronaut put out a bad track. This latest "Painted in the Dark", like Andre Obin, also on Vanya Records,  is super danceable but textured enough for tripping-in-the-headphones listening at the same time.

Ah come on. It's good stuff.

How does the review thing work? Does the outfit (The Phoenix for example) you're writing for give you the music? Or do you just give them a piece on what you've been listening to and hope they'll buy it?

Well, by this point I'm kind of in the loop at a lot of places, so the editor will say "hey, want to review this?" and I will say "Yes." Or vice versa. If you want some more detailed advice you can email me or whatever.
