Remember that post right below this one from yesterday where I got interviewed about being a "freelance journalist"? It's right down there. Take a look.
One of the questions was: "Ever had an occasion where you were supposed to cover an event but just got piss drunk and missed the scoop?" I would like to amend my answer to "Yes, today. Because I am not writing shit for this website." Fuck it, I'm laying on the couch by the Christmas tree and watching the first bad movie I can find on Netflix streaming.
Meanwhile, on the other side you can read my top ten records of the year from the Phoenix and my most memorable music moments in Boston this year from Dig Boston.

1. Teen Daze, Four More Years
2. Robyn, Body Talk Pt. 1
3. Marina and the Diamonds, The Family Jewels
4. Gold Panda, Lucky Shiner5. Memoryhouse, The Years EP
6. Kid Cudi, Man on the Moon 27. Robyn, Body Talk Pt 2
8. Faces on Film, Some Weather
9. Holy Ghost, Static on the Wire EP
10. The Tallest Man On Earth, The Wild Hunt
If I'm being honest I suppose I have to say that my favorite album of the year would be the one I listened to the most. No question that it was the gorgeous and organically synthetic debut from Canadian chillwave outfit Teen Daze. The only other album that came close was Howdy by Teenage Fanclub, but only because it always came on next on iTunes after I got lost in hazy swamp of this gorgeous record. A rather underwhelming live set at CMJ sort of dampened my boner for the band, and not in the good boner getting damp way, but I'm going to forget that ever happened. Robyn was stunning with all of her releases this year as well, particularly on tracks like “Dancehall Queen” and “Hang With Me” with only Marina coming in a close second to exhilarating dancefloor heartbreak. Gold Panda made the hip hop record of the year without dropping a verse, although Cudi wasn't far behind. Elsewhere it's the sun bleached paperback musing of Memoryhouse and Faces on Film, the spritely Swedish Springsteening of The Tallest Man with his awkwardly beautiful and elegiac songs like “Kids on the Run,” and runny-nosed disco euphoria from Holy Ghost. I couldn't decide whether to dance or cry in the mirror all year, so I just said fuck it and did both. These records will teach you how to do the same.

Friday, October 22nd @ Arlene’s Grocery
There’s something truly special about suffering through seven traffic-fucked hours on the Bolt Bus all the way down to New York City to see a lineup of bands you could see at home with a bunch of people you stand next to all the time. Anyway, by special, I mean sad. Although, Beast of the Northeast at CMJ was the first time I saw Mean Creek, I think it qualifies as memorable. Bodega Girls made me proud that day, too. See, New York? We’ve got sketchy electro party drunks in leotards, too!
Sheila Divine @ Lansdowne Pub
Not sure if I've mentioned this enough times over the past ten years, but I kind of like these guys. Seeing them perform together again was a special moment for all of the Boston rock nerds like me who spent the past decade screaming along to the band in our car and at home, with the added bonus that no one mistook the strenuous throat hurdling sound for a brutal murder going down.
Morrissey Tribute Show @ Great Scott
If I had to put together a Morrissey tribute show, the acts that played this night, Jake Zavracky, Ad Frank, Jesse out of Emergency Music and Jay out of Taxpayer, plus The Honors, and my homeboys in Unhappy Birthday would probably be who I would pick. So that's exactly what I did. Performing someone else's songs is pretty much cheating to get applause and accolades, but fuck it, I didn't spend all that time dancing around like Morrissey in the mirror just to not let people pay to come watch me do it.
Bang Camaro + Mystery Roar @ the Paradise
These two bands seem like they'd go off about as well as a punch in the dick, but the secret is that most of the BC dudes are huge Donna Summer fans and those kids out of Mystery Roar originally got together as a White Lion cover band, so it worked. I think some of the young brohammers there for BC might've gone home with a lot to think about after watching Nate do his thing on stage.
