Seth Putnam, pride of Boston, singer of horrifically offensive, and often horrifically hilarious grindcore act Anal Cunt, has gone off to his final reward this weekend, succumbing to a heart attack. Also at risk of heart attacks, local newspaper copy editors trying to figure out how to make mention of the band's name in their reports.
Putnam had had numerous brushes with death in the past, as he discussed in an interview here." "The secret to taking heavy drugs is just not O.D.ing. I died two additional times after I was in the coma a few years ago. I have been legally dead four times. I was physically pronounced dead by a physician. I can't be killed."
The Boston Phoenix ran a great interview with Putnam after his death scare a few years back, asking him about the irony of being in a coma considering he'd written the song "Youre In a Coma" with lyrics like "You're gay and you're in a coma. You're a fruit and a vegetable." Other classic song titles included “You Quit Doing Heroin You Pussy”; “Limp Bizkit Thinks They’re Black but They’re Just Gay”; “You’re Pregnant So I Kicked You in the Stomach”; and “Your Kid Committed Suicide Because You Suck.”
"Actually, it turned out it was just as gay as the song I wrote nine years ago — being in a coma was just as fuckin’ stupid as I wrote it was. We did a show on August 27 in Albany and we played ‘You’re in a Coma’ for the first time ever live. I don’t want people to think I’m a hypocrite. I don’t want people to think that I can’t make fun of myself."
No one ever thought that, old boy. Only thing gayer than being in a coma though is being dead, you big dead pussy.
