Effective advertisement is ineffective

It took me about two minutes into this amazing advertisement for Microsoft Songsmith before I realized I wasn't watching a parody. I've finally finished it and I'm still waiting for Andy Samberg to show up and blow our minds by rapping as a white person.

There are too many highlights here to pick just one. I kind of like when the secretly Canadian Indian with two hoop earrings comes in. "My band has said my songs have been a little stale lately." Not any more dude, you've got a rudimentary drum machine. Is this real? This isn't real, right? KILL IT WITH FIRE

PS: why are they using a Mac in a Microsoft ad?

PSx2 Good luck ever getting this out of your head.  "You sing into a microphone while the drummer plays along. And then when Songsmith makes the music you're on your way to a song."

PSx3 How long before literally every single person in the world is going to be "working on beats"? A year? Two, tops? DJ REVOLUTION

That dad sucks.

Dude stole his daughter's computer. Nice flower stickers, dad.

That dude should focus on losing his earrings first and then maybe his band wouldn't hate him so much.

I totally had earrings like that in 94. Went well with my XXXL flannel and ponytail.

That dad is a deadbeat dad/computer thief. Wait until he finds his daughter's stickam noodz on her hard drive. BUSTED!

LOL Dude that is totally a Macintosh. Microsoft fail.

Haha, right? Nice sticker to cover it up.

"Microsoft has apparently released a viral commercial to support its new song-writing tool, Songsmith.

Songsmith, which was covered on the blog last week, automatically generates an accompaniment of chords when a user sings.

Anyways, here's the commercial. The man with the red shirt and red tie is Microsoft researcher Dan Morris. The man who joins him at the cafe table is fellow researcher Sumit Basu. They developed Songsmith together."

Yeah, apparently this is pretty old. But still. Yikes. Also, my new motto for the site is Make It Old.
