Hey get me, doing stuff. Last night my name was... Judge, at the Boston Rock and Roll Rumble, a proud 30 + year institution in which the city's bands all compete to passive aggressively undermine eachother. That's Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling, who were raw as fuck. Raw as something raw. Raw balls I guess, but that's sort of my first description for everything. Could be the skinny girl jeans without underwear I'm always stuffing my pegs into.
I went into the night thinking I would like Spirit Kid the best, because their jangly Apples In Stereo indie is right up my alley. My gay alley. Someone remind me to trademark that name later. Anyway, they won. It was something of an upset I'd say.
ENTERTAIN US MOTHERFUCKERS
Sidewalk Driver entertained the fuck out of everyone with a set of glammy power pop that is kind of exactly what I think about when I think about what Boston bands that people like are supposed to sound like. They also fall in line with the old Boston tradition of wearing goofy shit on stage. What's that all about?
Wait, Mellow Bravo is actually the quintessential Boston band. Drunk, vaguely metal, and really into classic rock. I thought they would win, and had them slightly ahead in my voting, even though it's not really my thing, just because I know how well this stuff goes over in Boston crowds. Also, just saying, but the singer is basically a Jack Black character. Good frontman though.
Then there was the comedy thing we did the other night.
I forget this guy's name, but he was funny. Maybe try googling black funny dude in a hoodie?
Lillian DeVane made me laugh, which isn't easy to do. The rest of the night was a lot funnier than I expected too. I mostly just sat there with a goofy smile on my face that was caught before a laugh, like when you can't sneeze? Kind of uncomfortable actually. This thing sucked now that I think of it.
There's our Walt and Joel. This is probably right around the time I decided I was gonna steal his hashtag comedy shtick.
Make with the funny motherfuckers.
