This Boston Globe story is relevant to my interests. Does this news story have a news-letter, because I would like to subscribe to it. Here are the bases we have covered: The Patriots, the only thing I actually care about in the world, casino gambling, my first of many addictions (you always have a special place in your heart for the first one), and a perfect example of the type of thing that hippies like me are bitching about with the Occupy protests.
A state lawmaker has proposed that no taxpayer money be spent on commuter rail expansion to Foxborough in light of the potential development of a $1 billion casino near Gillette Stadium.
The Globe reports today that the Robert Kraft, whose Kraft Group owns the New England Patriots and the potential casino site, is in negotiations with one of Las Vegas’s biggest players, Steve Wynn, to propose the project.
The use of public funds for the rail expansion would create an unfair advantage for developers of the Foxborough casino over other developers in the state who must bear the cost of infrastructure improvements associated with their projects, Republican state Representative Daniel B. Winslow said today in a letter to state officials.
Winslow cited an MBTA report that concluded expansion to Foxborough would result in an annual operating loss of about $4 million.
As much as I'd like to see Robert Kraft's billions multiplied tenfold, on the off chance that it might help out the team, and as much as I'd like to be able to ride public transport to a black jack table, I can't help but think that, oh, maybe the average tax payer shouldn't be paying the upfront costs for a business model that leads to convoys of dump trucks pouring mountains of cash into a couple of billionaires laps?
“With two billionaires poised to privately benefit from rail expansion, it would be fiscally irresponsible for any public funds to be expended on this project,” Winslow said.
“In my view, not one thin dime of limited public money should be spent for the private benefit of billionaires in a private transaction,” he said.
WHY DOES WINSLOW HATE CAPITALISM? I mean, I know why I do (because my mommy told me I was special via Adam Corollerz) but he's a Republican for fuck's sake. What's his game here?
Maybe this makes me a socialist, and jealous of the job creators, but unless the state and the taxpayers are getting a cut of that sweet, sweet dirty cash bilked off of Asian tourists and blue collar grandpas with their wheel-chair bound oxygen-tank-toting wives, then I'm not really sure why these deadbeats are coming to us for a free handout. Being a successful business owner is all about taking risks, we're constantly being told. It's about having the stones to try things that the rest of us with our bongos and our dreadlocks and our degrees in women's studies are too scared to try. That's the most American value of all isn't it? Besides socialized expenses and privatized profits I mean. And Tom Brady tossing one over the middle to Wes Welker.

Um. I had to pick up my bike in the shop in Cambridge today. I left my house near Dudley Square at 2:15. Arrive at Dudley at 2:25. Watched as Silver Line buses backed up all the way down Washington, choked by passenger cars. The #1 Bus eventually arrived. It took 45 minutes to get to Cambridge, around 3:15. Is that about how long it would take to get to Foxboro? My bus full of 80 people had to stop every block and pull out into traffic (full of cars that carry only one person each). How about, instead of investing money in a commuter rail line that only benefits a few private enterprises: Let's reinvest in Dudley's infrastructure. More express buses. Replace the Silver Line's giant buses with a light rail solution (with a right of way!) that goes to South Station. Give the community the transit they deserve (after the re-routing of the heavily used Elevated orange line), instead of half-ass "Rapid Transit" bus service. Just an idear... Peace!
Yes, that would be an all too sensible way to spend infrastructure money. The Silverline is a joke. But, you know, billionaires gotta billionaire, so good luck with that.
you really nailed this one, luke. #NOHEWMEW

I'm not gay or nothing, but thanks mustard.
A light rail sounds way cooler than it really is.
I could go for a few light rails right now.
